prostate tumor-overexpressed gene 1 protein; PTOV-1; activator interaction domain-containing protein 2 (PTOV1, ACID2, PP642, UNQ6127/PRO20092)

Function: - may activate transcription - required for nuclear translocation of FLOT1 - promotes cell proliferation - may interact with CREBBP. interacts with FLOT1 Structure: - belongs to the mediator complex subunit 25 family PTOV1 subfamily Compartment: - cell membrane, cytoplasm, perinuclear region, nucleus - translocates from the cytoplasm to the nucleus at the onset of S-phase - also localizes to lipid rafts Alternative splicing: named isoforms=3 Expression: - expressed in brain, heart, kidney, liver, placenta, skeletal muscle & small intestine - expressed at low levels in quiescent cells - expression rises upon entry into S-phase - induced by testosterone Pathology: - first identified in search for genes differentially overexpressed in prostate cancer: - 71% of prostate carcinomas, - 80% of prostate intraepithelial neoplasia Note: - despite sequence similarity to MED25, PTOV1 has not been identified as a component of the mediator complex
