Proquad (measles, mumps, rubella [MMR] plus varicella viruses live, MMRV)

Indications: 1) immunization of children 4-12* years of age 2) may be used if 2nd dose of MMR is to be administered Contraindications: - infants 1-2 years of age* Adverse effects: - febrile seizures* [3] * CDC recommends that MMR vaccine be given separate from varicella vaccine at 1-2 years of age due to risk of febrile seizures * at 4-6 years of age the risk of febrile seizures has resolved [4] Mechanism of action: - attenuated live virus vaccine that combines measles, mumps, rubella & varicella viruses
