Indications:
- chronic musculoskeletal pain
- temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome
Procedure:
- injection of an irritant substance to treat chronic musculoskeletal pain
- prolotherapy with hypertonic 20% dextrose + lidocaine for TMJ syndrome
- monthly injections into TMJ
Mechanism of action:
- stimulation of a beneficial proliferative cellular reaction in the involved area
- neural mechanisms also have been proposed
