lysosomal Pro-X carboxypeptidase; angiotensinase C; lysosomal carboxypeptidase C; proline carboxypeptidase; prolylcarboxypeptidase; PRCP (PRCP, PCP)
Function:
- cleaves C-terminal amino acids linked to proline in peptides such as angiotensin-2, angiotensin-3 & des-Arg9-bradykinin
- cleavage occurs at acidic pH, but enzymatic activity is retained with some substrates at neutral pH
- cleavage of a -Pro-|-Xaa bond to release a C-terminal amino acid
Structure:
- homodimer
- belongs to the peptidase S28 family
Compartment: lysosome
Expression:
- highest expression in placenta, lung & liver
- also expressed in heart, brain, pancreas & kidney
