proprotein convertase PC7 (proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 7, subtilisin/kexin-like protease PC7, prohormone convertase PC7, PC8, hPC8, lymphoma proprotein convertase)

Function: - ubiquitous endoprotease activity within constitutive secretory pathways (putative) - capable of cleavage at the RXXX[KR]R consensus motif - inhibited by Zn+2 & copper (putative) - release of mature proteins from their proproteins by cleavage of Arg-Xaa-Xaa-Xaa-Yaa-Arg-|-Zaa bonds, where Xaa can be any amino acid & Yaa is Arg or Lys Cofactor: Ca+2 (putative) Structure: - Cys in the cytoplasmic tail are probably palmitoylated - N-glycosylated - belongs to the peptidase S8 family - contains 1 homo B/P domain Compartment: - Golgi, trans-Golgi network membrane - seems to be localized intracellularly to the trans Golgi network (putative) Expression: - expressed in spleen, thymus, prostate, testis, ovary, small intestine, colon & peripheral blood leukocytes
