Profilin-2; Profilin II (PFN2)

Function: - binds to actin & affects structure of the cytoskeleton - modulates polymerization of actin inhibits it at high but enhances it at low concentrations - by binding to PIP2, inhibits formation of IP3 & diacylglycerol - occurs in many kinds of cells as a complex with monomeric actin in a 1:1 ratio Structure: belongs to the profilin family Compartment: cytoplasm, cytoskeleton Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: - highly expressed in brain, skeletal muscle & kidney - less strongly expressed in heart, placenta, lung & liver
