prevention of heart failure
Management:
1) healthy life style cuts risk of heart failure in half [1]
- keeping a normal weight
- not smoking
- exercising regularly
- drinking moderately
- eating breakfast cereals
- consuming fruits & vegetables
- risk reduction larger with higher number of health behaviors [4]
- quality sleep linked to lower risk of heart failure [5]
2) pharmaceutical measures for specific pathology
- treat chronic hypertension to target of < 130/80 mm Hg [6]
- nocturnal blood pressure may be important risk factor [2]
- treat dyslipidemia - statins of benefit
- aspirin for coronary artery disease [3]
