prednisolone/sulfacetamide (Blephamide, Cetapred, Metimyd)
Tradenames: Blephamide, Cetapred, Metimyd.
Indications:
- inflammatory ocular condition with risk of infection
- eyelid disease
- may also be used as on otic solution
Contraindications: sulfa allergy
Dosage:
1) suspension: instil 1-3 drops every 2-3 hours while awake
2) ointment: apply QD-QID
Blephamide: (ophthalmic)
- sodium sulfacetamide 10%/prednisolone acetic_acid 0.2% (3.5 g [ointment], 5 mL, 10 mL [solution])
Cetapred: (ophthalmic)
- sodium sulfacetamide 10%/prednisolone acetic_acid 0.25% (3.5 g [ointment])
Adverse effects: (ophthalmic)
1) not common (1-10%)
- local burning, stinging, irritation
2) uncommon (< 1%)
- vertigo, seizures, psychosis, pseudotumor cerebri, headache, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, skin atrophy, Cushing's syndrome, pituitary-adrenal axis suppression, peptic ulcer, nausea/vomiting, muscle weakness, osteoporosis, fractures, cataracts, glaucoma
