Indications: - evaluation of porphyria Reference interval: - < 1 mg/day (< 4.4 umol/day) Clinical significance: - aminolevulinate & porphobilinogen are increased in urine of patients with acute intermittent porphyria, & to a lesser extent in hereditary coproporphyria & during acute attacks of variegate porphyria Increases: - acute intermittent porphyria - hereditary coproporphyria - variegate porphyria (during attacks)
