poly(A) RNA polymerase GLD2 (hGLD-2, PAP-associated domain-containing protein 4, PAPD4, GLD2)
Function:
- cytoplasmic poly(A) RNA polymerase that adds successive AMP monomers to the 3'-end of specific RNAs, forming a poly(A) tail
- in contrast to the canonical nuclear poly(A) RNA polymerase, it only adds poly(A) to selected cytoplasmic mRNAs
- interacts with CPEB1, CPEB2, CPSF1 & PABPC1 ATP + RNA(n) = diphosphate + RNA(n+1)
Structure:
- belongs to the DNA polymerase type-B-like family, GLD2 subfamily
Compartment: cytoplasm (putative). nucleus
Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2
Expression:
- expressed in brain
- within brain, expressed in cerebellum, hippocampus & medulla
