Polycomb group multiprotein PRC1 complex (PcG PRC1 complex, hPRC-H, PcG repressive complex 1)
Function:
1) maintenance of transcriptionally repressive state of genes, including Hox genes, throughout development
2) acts via chromatin remodeling & modification of histones, rendering chromatin heritably changed in its expressibility
3) mediates monoubiquitination of histone H2A Lys-119, rendering chromatin heritably changed in its expressibility
4) RNF2 acts as the main E3 ubiquitin ligase on histone H2A
5) RING1 & PCGF4 act as modulators of RNF2 activity
