Indications: 1) tuberculosis with suspected tuberculous involvement of pleural space a) culture of pleural biopsy b) diagnostic yield > 75% 2) malignant pleural effusion - diagnostic yield 50% - repeat thoracentesis & pleural fluid analysis prior to pleural biopsy 3) mesothelioma - diagnostic yield < 30%
