platyspondyly (platyspondylisis)

Etiology: - osteogenesis imperfecta type2 (congenital platyspondyly). - thanatophoric dysplasia - metatropic dwarfism - Morquios disease (develops later childhood) - spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia tarda (develops later childhood) - Kniests dysplasia (develops later childhood) Pathology: - flattened vertebral body shape with reduced distance beween the endplates - may be generalised or localised Differential diagnosis: - if a single vertebra is only affected then this is known as vertebra plana
