Adverse effects: - rarely severe or life-threatening - result in seizures, acidosis, hepatic necrosis, heart block, tachycardia, hypotension, hypoglycemia or hypertension - plant toxins include - calcium oxalate - plants with hypoglycemic potential: Panex ginseng & others (see [1]) - plants causing electrolyte disturbances & other pathology (digitalis glycosides) - mushroom poisoning - many others Laboratory: - blood glucose if altered mental status Management: - digoxin antibody Fab framents for suspected cardiac glycoside toxicity
