Indications:
1) pressure ulcers
2) diabetic ulcers
3) burns
4) traumatic wounds
Dosage: (application)
1) apply a thin layer of phenytoin powder USP directly to wound QD & cover with a sterile bandage
2) mix the contents of a 100 mg phenytoin capsule with 5 mL of sterile saline; soak gauze in it & place over the wound change dressing daily
Pharmacokinetics:
-> very little absorbed
Mechanism of action:
1) promotes wound healing
2) enhances synthesis of collagen
3) promotes growth of fibroblasts
4) related to effects on gingival hyperplasia
Interactions
drug adverse effects of anticonvulsants
monitor with anticonvulsants
