Etiology:
1) platelet disorders
2) thrombocytopenia
3) emboli
4) vasculitis (rare)
5) Neisseria gonorrhoeae
6) progressive pigmentary purpura
7) Rocky Mountain spotted fever
8) scurvy
9) senile (traumatic)
Clinical manifestations:
- pinhead-sized purpura most frequently on gravitationally impacted skin surfaces & on mucous membranes
- petechiae do not blanch on diascopy [4]
