pes cavus; claw foot; talipes cavus

A disorder of the foot in which the longitudinal arch of the foot is accentuated. Etiology: - commonly associated with neurological disorder Pathology: - excessive pressure is usually placed on the metatarsal heads - atrophy of the plantar fat pad & displacement of the metatarsal heads increases pressure on the metatarsal heads Clinical manifestations: - higher than normal arch of the foot Complications: - predisposition to foot pain & foot ulceration Management: - orthotics - refer to podiatry or orthopedics for surgical options
