Function: 1) flavoenzyme involve in polyamine catabolism 2) catalyzes oxidation of N(1)-acetylspermine to spermidine & is thus involved in the polyamine back-conversion 3) can also oxidize N(1)-acetylspermidine to putrescine 4) substrate specificity: N(1)-acetylspermine = N(1)-acetylspermidine > N(1),N(12)-diacylspermine >> spermine 5) does not oxidize spermidine 6) role in regulation of polyamine intracellular concentration 7) cellular sensitivity to antitumor polyamine analogs N(1)-acetylspermine + O2 + H2O N(1)-acetylspermidine + 3-aminopropanal + H2O2 Cofactor: FAD Structure: belongs to the flavin monoamine oxidase family Compartment: peroxisome, cytoplasm Alternative splicing: named isoforms=11 Expression: - widely expressed - not detected in spleen - induced by polyamine analogs Pathology: - expressed at lower level in neoplastic tissues
