palindromic rheumatism; Hench-Rosenberg syndrome; intermittent hydrarthrosis

Pathology: - no joint damage after attacks Clinical manifestations: - sudden attacks of arthritis - arthragia - joint effeusion - disability - generally only one joint involved - interval between recurrent attacks is variable - duration of attacks is also variable Laboratory: - synovial fluid analysis generally normal - ESR or serum CRP may be elevated - rheumatoid factor & cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody may be elevated in a subset of patients likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis Differential diagnosis: - gout - new onset rheumatoid arthritis Complications: - development of rheumatoid arthritis Management: - symtomatic
