Indications: 1) hyperlipoproteinemia type 5 2) promoting weight gain afer surgery, chronic infection or trauma 3) relief of bone pain associated with osteoporosis Contraindications: 1) carcinoma of the prostate 2) hypercalcemia (anabolic steroids may stimulate osteolytic bone resorption) 3) pregnancy 4) nephrosis/nephrotic phase of nephritis Dosage: 2.5 mg BID-QID Tabs: 2.5 mg Monitor: 1) liver function tests 2) lipid panel 3) complete blood count Adverse effects: 1) peliosis hepatis 2) cholestatic hepatitis 3) hepatocellular neoplasms with long-term use 4) skin: acne 5) hair: hirsuitism & male balding pattern in females 6) premature closure of epiphyses in children 7) habituation 8) nausea/vomiting 9) polycythemia
