Etiology:
- heredity
- rapid growth
- anatomic conformation
- trauma
- nutritional deficiency or excess
Epidemiology:
- occurs in occur in children & adolescents & in other rapidly growing animals
Pathology:
- focal disturbance of enchondral ossification
- failure of blood supply to growth cartilage
- localized bony necrosis
- later, regrowth of the bone
