organic food

Notes: - organically produced foods do NOT have superior nutrient composition. [1,2,3] - concentrations of many antioxidants are significantly higher in organic than nonorganic crops [4] - flavanone concentrations are 69% higher - anthocyanin concentrations are 51% higher - pesticide residues are found more often in nonorganic crops, although they are still within safe ranges [4[ - organic produce is 30% less likely to be contaminated with pesticides [2] - higher levels of cadmium is found in nonorganic food [4] - risk for contamination with pathogenic bacteria does not differ between conventional and organic foods [2] - raising livestock without prophylactic antibiotics may reduce human disease from antibiotic-resistant bacteria [3] - higher frequency of organic food consumption is associated with a diminished risk of cancer [5] - remaining question(s): - do the pesticides & chemicals that are used in producing conventional foods have clinical consequences? [3,4]
