opening snap (OS)

Etiology: - occurs in association with mitral stenosis - more severe mitral stenosis, associated with shorter S2-opening snap interval. Clinical manifestations: - high-pitched sound following S2 by 0.06-0.12 seconds heard at the apex of the heart & left sternal border
