ocular hypotony

intraocular pressure <= 5 mm Hg Pathology: - clinically significant changes occur more frequently as the intraocular pressure approaches 0 mm Hg Complications: - corneal decompensation - accelerated cataract formation - maculopathy - eye pain/discomfort Management: - correct underlying etiology - few, if any, useful medications are available that raise intraocular pressure - topical ibopamine may raise intraocular pressure but is poorly tolerated - ophthalmic glucocorticoids may improve aqueous humor production by decreasing ciliary body inflammation - increasing fluid intake may slightly increase aqueous humor production
