N-glycosylation site or Asn glycosylation site

Potential N-glycosylation sites are specific to the consensus sequence Asn-Xaa-Ser/Thr. The consensus tripeptide is not sufficient for N-glycosylation, because protein folding plays a role in the regulation of N-glycosylation. Pro between Asn & Ser/Thr will inhibit N-glycosylation. About 50% of the sites that have a proline C-terminal to Ser/Thr are not glycosylated. A few glycosylation sites with the pattern Asn-Xaa-Cys are found.
