N-acylethanolamine-hydrolyzing acid amidase; N-acylsphingosine amidohydrolase-like; ASAH-like protein; acid ceramidase-like protein (ASAHL, NAAA, PLT)

Function: - degrades bioactive fatty acid amides to their corresponding acids, with the following preference: N- palmitoylethanolamine > N-myristoylethanolamine > N-lauroylethanolamine = N-stearoylethanolamine > N-arachidonoylethanolamine > N-oleoylethanolamine - weak hydrolytic activity against the ceramides N-lauroylsphingosine & N-palmitoylsphingosine - stimulated by DTT & Nonidet P-40 - tunicamycin diminishes activity against N-palmitoylethanolamine Kinetic parameters: - KM=97 uM for N-palmitoylethanolamine - Optimum pH is 4.5 with N-palmitoylethanolamine as substrate Structure: N-glycosylated Compartment: lysosome Alternative splicing: named isoforms=3 Expression: expressed in liver & kidney > pancreas, other tissues
