N-acetylprocainamide (NAPA, Acecainide)

N-acetylprocainamide (NAPA) is a class III antiarrhythmic agent & the major metabolite of procainamide (a class Ia antiarrhythmic). Laboratory: 1) specimen a) serum, plasma (heparin, EDTA, oxalate) b) stable for 6 months at -20 degrees C c) collect for trough concentration 2) methods: HPLC, GLC, EIA, FPIA, FIA 3) analyze in conjunction with procainamide 4) interferences: a) FPIA: heparin b) hemolysis & lipemia interfere with all methods, but GC & HPLC Therapeutic range: 6-30 ug/mL
