N-acetylated-alpha-linked acidic dipeptidase 2; glutamate carboxypeptidase III; GCPIII; N-acetylated-alpha-linked acidic dipeptidase II; NAALADase II (NAALAD2)
Function:
1) N-acetylated-alpha-linked-acidic dipeptidase (NAALADase)
2) dipeptidyl-peptidase IV type activity
3) releases unsubstituted, C-terminal glutamyl residue, generally from Ac-Asp-Glu or folylpoly-gamma-glutamates
4) inactivates the peptide neurotransmitter N-acetylaspartyl- glutamate
Inhibition: inhibited by quisqualate
Cofactor:
- binds 2 Zn+2 per subunit
Structure:
- the NAALADase activity is found in the central region, the dipeptidyl peptidase IV type activity in the C-terminal
- belongs to the peptidase M28 family, M28B subfamily
Compartment: membrane
Expression:
- testis > ovary, spleen > prostate, heart, placenta
- in brain, expressed in striatum, parietal cortex, ventral striatum > hippocampus, brain stem, putamen, superior colliculus
