nucleolar & spindle-associated protein 1 (NuSAP, NUSAP1, ANKT, BM-037, PRO0310)

Function: - microtubule-associated protein - capacity to bundle & stabilize microtubules (putative) - may associate with chromosomes & promote the organization of mitotic spindle microtubules around them - interacts with DNA & microtubules - microtubule bundling is inhibited by IPO7, KPNA2 & KPNB1; association with DNA is also inhibited by IPO7 & KPNA2 (putative) - phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR - ubiquitinated - uiquitination by FZR1 may lead to proteasome-dependent degradation Structure: - KEN box is required for the FZR1-dependent degradation subsequent to ubiquitination - belongs to the NUSAP family Compartment: - cytoplasm, nucleus, nucleolus (putative) - found in the cytoplasm & nucleolus during interphase & redistributes to the mitotic spindle in prometaphase (putative) - ocalizes to the mitotic spindle during anaphase & telophase then disappears from around the chromosomes during cytokinesis (putative) - localizes to multiple distinct regions of chromosomes t throughout mitosis Alternative splicing: named isoforms=5
