Function: - preferentially catalyzes dephosphorylation of Ser-5 within the tandem 7 residues repeats in the C-terminal domain (CTD) of the largest RNA polymerase 2 subunit POLR2A - negatively regulates RNA polymerase 2 transcription, possibly by controlling transition from initiation/capping to processive transcript elongation - recruited by REST to neuronal genes that contain RE-1 elements, leading to neuronal gene silencing in non-neuronal cells - stimulated by GTF2F1 - inhibited by beryllofluoride anions - interacts with GTF2F1 - interacts with REST pH dependence: optimum pH is 5 Cofactor: binds 1 Mg+2 per monomer Structure: - monomer (putative). - contains 1 FCP1 homology domain Compartment: - nucleus - colocalizes with RNA polymerase 2 Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: - expression is restricted to non-neuronal tissues - highest expression in skeletal muscle, spleen, lung & placenta
