NF-Y protein chain B {beta}; CAAT-box DNA-binding protein subunit B; CCAAT-binding transcription factor subunit A; CBF-A, (NFYB)
Function:
- component of nuclear factor V
- stimulates the transcription of various genes by recognizing & binding to a CCAAT motif in promoters, for example in type 1 collagen, albumin & beta-actin genes
- NF-YB & NF-YC must interact & dimerize for NF-YA association & DNA binding
Structure:
- can be divided into 3 domains:
a) weakly conserved A domain
b) highly conserved B domain thought to be involved in subunit interaction & DNA binding
c) Glu-rich C domain belongs to the NFYB/HAP3 subunit family
