nuclear distribution protein nudE homolog 1 (NudE, NDE1, NUDE)
Function:
- required for centrosome duplication & formation & function of the mitotic spindle
- essential for development of the cerebral cortex
- may regulate production of neurons by controlling orientation of the mitotic spindle during division of cortical neuronal progenitors of the proliferative ventricular zone in brain
- orientation of the division plane perpendicular to layers of the cortex gives rise to two proliferative neuronal progenitors whereas parallel orientation of the division plane yields one proliferative neuronal progenitor & a post- mitotic neuron
- a premature shift towards a neuronal fate within the progenitor population may result in an overall reduction in the final number of neurons & an increase in the number of neurons in the deeper layers of the cortex (putative)
- self-associates
- interacts with CENPF, CEP110, dynein, SLMAP & TCP1 (putative)
- interacts with dynactin, tubulin gamma, PAFAH1B1, PCM1 & PCNT
- phosphorylated in mitosis
Structure: belongs to the nudE family
Compartment:
- cytoplasm, centrosome, kinetochore, spindle
- concentrates at plus ends of microtubules coincident with kinetochores in metaphase & anaphase
- localizes to cleavage furrow during cytokinesis (putative)
- localizes to interphase centrosome & to mitotic spindle
Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2
