Indications:
- infection
Specimen:
1) source:
a) tissue removed at surgery
b) bone
c) anticoagulated bone marrow
d) biopsy samples
e) other specimens from normally sterile sites
2) minimum volume: 1 mL of fluid or a 1 g piece of tissue
3) container:
a) sterile culturette type swab or similar transport system containing a holding medium
b) a sterile bottle or jar should be used for tissue specimens
Notes:
-> enough tissue should be sent for both histology & microbiology
