NMDA receptor-regulated protein 1; N-alpha-acetyltransferase 15, natA auxiliary subunit; gastric cancer antigen Ga19; N-terminal acetyltransferase; protein tubedown-1; Tbdn100 (NAA15, GA19, NARG1, NATH, TBDN100)

Function: 1) ARD1-NARG1 complex with acetyltransferase activity 2) vascular, hematopoietic & neuronal growth & development 3) retinal neovascularisation in adult ocular endothelial cells 4) in complex with XRCC6 (G22P1) & XRCC5 (Ku80), up-regulates transcription from osteocalcin promoter 5) interacts with XRCC6 (G22P1), XRCC5, ARD1 6) cleaved by caspases during apoptosis; results in stable 35 kD fragment Structure: contains 8 TPR repeats Compartment: cytoplasmic, nuclear in some cases Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: - expressed at high levels in testis & ocular endothelial cells, brain (corpus callosum), heart, colon, bone marrow - lower levels in most adult tissues Pathology: - overexpressed in: a) gastric cancer b) papillary thyroid carcinoma c) Burkitt lymphoma cell line (Daudi cells). - specifically suppressed in abnormal proliferating blood vessels in eyes of patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy
