NIRVANA

NIRVANA stands for Nanopore sequencing of Isothermal Rapid Viral Amplification for Near real-time Analysis Indications: - can simultaneously detect & sequence SARS-CoV2, influenza & other viruses Procedure: - uses small, portable device that can screen 96 samples at the same time - simultaneously test samples for COVID-19, influenza A, human adenovirus, & non-SARS-CoV2 human coronavirus - including sequences of 5 regions of SARS-CoV2 that captures the B.1.1.7 variant - within 15 minutes, the device begins to report positive & negative results - within 3 hours, the device finalizes results of 96 samples Mechanism of action: - uses isothermal recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) coupled with real-time nanopore sequencing - allows for amplifying longer stretches of DNA, & to probe for multiple genes at the same time Notes: - portable, pocket-sized machine
