Nicalin (nicastrin-like protein, NCLN)

Function: - may antagonize Nodal signaling & subsequent organization of axial structures during mesodermal patterning - interacts with NOMO2 - due to the strong similarity between NOMO1, NOMO2 & NOMO3, it probably also interacts with NOMO1 & NOMO3 - participates in a large protein complex, which is not related to the gamma-secretase complex Structure: belongs to the nicastrin family Compartment: endoplasmic reticulum membrane Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: - highly expressed in pancreas & skeletal muscle &, at lower levels, in heart
