Principle: - nanoparticles containing RNA that encoding specific pathogen proteins - an RNA replicon contains a start signal, coding region a protein & a stop signal - once inside a cell, the replican can produce protein - vaccine against a specific microbe can be created in 1 week Comparative biology: - mice provided a single dose nanoparticle RNA vaccine for H1N1 influenza, Toxoplasma gondii, or Ebolavirus sustained protection against lethal doses of each of these pathogens - no evidence of an immune response against the nanoparticle
