NADPH (reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate)
Function:
- reduced form of NADP
- provides reducing equivalents, 2 electrons & 1 proton for oxidation reduction reactions, involved in:
a) regeneration of reduced glutathione
b) cholesterol synthesis
c) fatty acid chain elongation
d) cytochrome P450 hydroxylations
- ~60% of NADPH is produced by the pentose phosphate pathway
