mumps virus vaccine

Generally used in combination with other vaccines 1) measles-mumps-rubella vaccine (MMR) 2) rubella-&-mumps vaccine. Pathology: - no evidence of emergence of resistant genotypes Management: - a 3rd vaccine dose around 18 years of age, with or without regular dosing in adulthood is suggested Notes: - vaccine protection seems to last an average of 27 years after the last dose (from mathematical models of outbreaks) - among people with an immune response to the vaccine, 25% may lose protection by 8 years, 50% by 19 years, & 75% by 38 years (not clear if this is disappearingcirculating IgG or mathematical models of outbreaks)
