multicilin; multiciliate differentiation & DNA synthesis-associated cell cycle protein; protein Idas (MCIDAS, IDAS, MCI, MCIN)
Function:
- transcription regulator required for multiciliate cell differentiation
- acts by promoting transcription of genes required for multiciliate cell formation
- probably acts in a multiprotein complex (putative)
- plays a role in mitotic cell cycle progression by promoting cell cycle exit
- interacts with GMNN; targets GMNN to the nucleus
- prevents GMNN interaction with CDT1 & competes with IDAS homodimerization
Structure:
- homodimer
- belongs to the geminin family
Compartment:
- nucleus
- excluded from the nucleolus
Expression:
- probable target of the anaphase promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C) which regulates its level in the cell during the mitotic cell cycle
- highly expressed during interphase & early mitosis
- expression decreases during anaphase to become undetectable during telophase & cytokinesis
Notes:
- was named Idas in reference to the cousin of the Gemini in ancient greek mythology [2]
