Morton's foot
Short, hypermobile 1st metatarsal.
Pathology:
- hypermobile 1st metatarsal is often inadequate for push-off
Clinical manifestations:
1) characteristic weight-bearing pattern centered at the 2nd & 5th (rather than 1st & 5th) metatarsal heads
2) knee & foot pain (metatarsalgia) especially with activity
Management:
1) modification of footwear to include an inner border of the shoe bottom that provides a more stable base for push-off may alleviate symptoms
2) foot orthoses
