miliaria profunda
Etiology:
1) caused by occlusion of sweat duct in the lower epidermis or dermis
2) prolonged exposure to heat, especially in tropical areas, while performing heavy labor is usually necessary
3) may occur as a progression from miliaria rubra
Epidemiology: rare
Clinical manifestations:
1) stinging, pruritic lesions similar to miliaria rubra
2) appearance of discrete vesicular lesions
3) decreased or absence of sweating in affected regions
4) may occur as a progression from miliaria rubra
5) hyperthermia, exhaustion & heat intolerance may occur
Laboratory: not useful in diagnosis of miliaria
Management: (common to all forms of miliaria)
1) moving to cooler environment
2) application of cool compresses
3) wearing light, loose-fitting clothing
4) avoidance of greasy topical agents
5) natural desquamation
6) ensure adequate hydration
