microtubule-associated protein 9 (Aster-associated protein, MAP9, ASAP)

Function: - role in organization of the bipolar mitotic spindle - required for bipolar spindle assembly, mitosis progression & cytokinesis - may act by stabilizing interphase microtubules - binds to purified microtubules via its C-terminus - phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR Compartment: - cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, spindle - localizes to microtubules in interphase - associates with mitotic spindle during mitosis - localizes to the central body during cytokinesis Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: constitutively expressed during the cell cycle
