metaphase chromosome protein 1; metaphase chromosome protein 30 (HSMCR30, MCP1, MCP30)
Function:
- required during early stages of DNA replication such as the G1/S transition phase & early S phase
- phosphorylated
- associates with replication factors required for the initiation of DNA replication & binds to the initiation sites in loci that replicate early in S-phase
- the 31 kD form interacts with CDC6, ORC2, ORC4, MCM2, MCM3, MCM7, CDC45 & PCNA
- both the 31 kD & 33 kD forms interact with HIST1H1A, HIST1H1B & HIST1H1C
Compartment:
- nucleus, chromosome
- associated with condensed chromosomes throughout mitosis
- during interphase, shows a speckle distribution in the nucleus, excluding the nucleolus
Notes:
- 2 forms: 33 kD, & 31 kD are probably produced by initiation at Met-1 & Met-24 respectively
- uncertain whether Met-1 or Met-24 is the initiator
- product of a dubious CDS prediction
- not possible to identify the locus for this potential gene on the reference genome & similarity searches suggest it might not be of human origin evidences presented in refs [2=4]
