Function: 1) cell adhesion protein that participates in lymphocyte recirculation by mediating the binding of lymphocytes to peripheral lymph node vascular endothelial cells (L-selectin independent) fashion 2) monoamine oxidase activity 3) topaquinone (TPQ) is generated by Cu+2-dependent autoxidation of a specific tyrosyl residue RCH2NH2 + H2O + O2 RCHO + NH3 + H2O2 Cofactor: - binds 1 Cu+2 per subunit - binds 2 Ca+2 per subunit - contains 1 topaquinone per subunit Structure: 1) homodimer, disulfide-linked 2) belongs to the copper/topaquinone oxidase family 3) N- & O-glycosylated Compartment: membrane Expression: - expressed in high endothelial venules of peripheral lymph nodes & on hepatic endothelia - expressed in appendix, lung, small intestine > bone marrow, colon, heart, kidney, ovary, pancreas, placenta, prostate, skeletal muscle, spleen, testis
