Max-binding protein MNT (protein ROX, Myc antagonist MNT, MNT, ROX)
Function:
1) binds DNA as a heterodimer with MAX & represses transcription
2) binds to the canonical E box sequence 5'-CACGTG-3' &, with higher affinity, to 5'-CACGCG-3'
3) efficient DNA binding requires dimerization with another bHLH protein
4) binds DNA as homodimer or heterodimer with MAX
Structure:
- contains 1 basic helix-loop-helix domain (bHLH)
Compartment: nucleus
