Indications:
- local anesthetic
- lidocaine dripped on skin before subcutaneous lidocaine injections reduces pain of procedures [1]
Dosage:

Mechanism of action:
local anesthetic
1) amide-type local anesthetic
2) reversible blocks nerve conduction in all nerve fibers (sensory, motor, autonomic) by decreasing permeability of nerve to Na+
3) decreases rate of nerve depolarization
4) increases threshold of excitability
5) prevents propagation of action potential
6) autonomic activity is lost 1st followed by sensory & motor function
