Lidocaine subcutaneous

Indications: - local anesthetic - lidocaine dripped on skin before subcutaneous lidocaine injections reduces pain of procedures [1] Dosage: Local anesthetic: 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2%, 4%, 10%, 20%. with epinephrine 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2%. Mechanism of action: local anesthetic 1) amide-type local anesthetic 2) reversible blocks nerve conduction in all nerve fibers (sensory, motor, autonomic) by decreasing permeability of nerve to Na+ 3) decreases rate of nerve depolarization 4) increases threshold of excitability 5) prevents propagation of action potential 6) autonomic activity is lost 1st followed by sensory & motor function
