Lutropin-choriogonadotropic hormone receptor; LH/CG-R; LSH-R; Luteinizing hormone receptor; LHR (LHCGR, LCGR, LGR2 LHRHR)

Function: - receptor for LH hormone - activity is mediated by G proteins which activate adenylate cyclase - activation results in secretion of testosterone & estradiol by Leydig cells & secretion of androstenedione (& other androgens) aromatized to estradiol by adjacent granulosa cells. Structure: - belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family FSH/LSH/TSH subfamily - contains 7 LRR repeats (leucine-rich repeats) Compartment: cell membrane Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Additional isoforms seem to exist Expression: - expressed in gonadal & thyroid cells - expressed by Leydig cells of the testes & theca cells of the ovary Pathology: - defects in LHCGR are a cause of a) familial male precocious puberty b) Leydig cell hypoplasia
