LDL triglycerides in serum/plasma
Clinical significance:
- elevated levels associated with increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease
- increased risk not entirely statistically explained by serum apolipoprotein B levels
- may represent LDL remnants
Method:
- NMR spectroscopy
- direct automated assay (nor FDA-approved in U.S.)
Management:
- statins lower serum LDL cholesterol & serum triglycerides & perhaps LDL remnants
Notes:
- not clear if relationship to VLDL cholesterol in serum or triglycerides in serum
General
special chemistry test
