LDL triglycerides in serum/plasma

Clinical significance: - elevated levels associated with increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease - increased risk not entirely statistically explained by serum apolipoprotein B levels - may represent LDL remnants Method: - NMR spectroscopy - direct automated assay (nor FDA-approved in U.S.) Management: - statins lower serum LDL cholesterol & serum triglycerides & perhaps LDL remnants Notes: - not clear if relationship to VLDL cholesterol in serum or triglycerides in serum
