Procedure:
- endoscopic examination of the interior of the abdomen or pelvis
- done frequently in association with laparoscopic surgery
Complications:
- fibrous adhesions less frequent after laparoscopy than open surgery (~50%) [3]
- hospital readmissions directly related to adhesions (1.7% for laparoscopy vs 4.3% for open surgery) [3]
Management:
- avoid antibiotics during low-risk procedures [2]
